What is FAQPage schema?
FAQPage schema is structured data marking up a list of questions and answers on a page. Google restricted which sites qualify for its rich result in 2023, a change most advice recommending the markup has not caught up with.
The markup itself is simple: each question and its answer, wrapped in schema.org's Question and Answer types. For years the incentive to add it was visible, an expandable FAQ block taking up extra space in Google's results. That incentive mostly no longer exists.
In 2023 Google narrowed the FAQ rich result to a small set of authoritative government and health sites and removed the visible snippet for everyone else. Most guidance telling you to add FAQPage schema for the rich result predates that change and is now wrong for the great majority of sites. There is no evidence keeping the markup changes how often an AI engine quotes the page; the case for leaving it in, if it's already there, is that it costs little, not that it demonstrably helps.
