Common questions
- Why does structured data matter for AI search?
- An engine deciding whether to name you has to work out what you are, what you sell, and whether two mentions of a similar name are the same company. Structured data answers those questions explicitly rather than leaving them to be inferred from prose, which is where ambiguity turns into being left out.
- What is sameAs and why does this tool treat it as essential?
- sameAs is a list of URLs pointing at your other profiles: LinkedIn, Crunchbase, GitHub, X. It is what consolidates scattered mentions into one entity. Without it, a company named in three places can be read as three weakly-known companies rather than one well-known one.
- Is this the same as Google's Rich Results Test?
- No. Google's tool checks eligibility for Google's own rich result formats. This checks the subset of schema.org that matters for being understood and named by AI assistants, and it flags what is missing along with what to add.
- My page passes every check. Will AI recommend me now?
- No. Structured data is a precondition, not an outcome. It makes you legible; whether an engine then recommends you depends on what it has read about you elsewhere. Any tool that implies otherwise is selling you a green tick.
- Does invalid JSON-LD hurt more than none?
- In practice yes, though not because engines penalise it. A block that fails to parse is invisible, so you get nothing from it while believing it is working, and the missing markup never gets fixed. This tool counts unparseable blocks separately for that reason.
Legible is not the same as recommended
This tool tells you whether an engine can identify you. Whether one actually names you when a buyer asks is a different measurement, and it is the one we built Standing for.
