What is structured data?

Structured data is machine-readable markup, usually schema.org JSON-LD, that states explicitly what a page and its subject are.

For AI answers the useful subset is narrow: an Organization node so the entity exists, sameAs links so scattered mentions consolidate into one entity, a product or service node so there is something to recommend, and FAQPage markup so there are quotable passages.

Structured data makes you legible, not recommendable. An engine that can identify you perfectly will still name a competitor if that is what its sources say.
