What is Google AI Mode?
AI Mode is Google's fully conversational search experience, distinct from AI Overviews, which are summaries shown above ordinary results.
The difference matters for measurement. AI Overviews sit on a results page that still contains links, so the blue results retain some traffic. AI Mode replaces the results page with an answer and follow-up questions, which pushes the zero-click rate substantially higher.
They also draw on sources differently and can name different brands for the same question, so a tool measuring one and reporting it as Google coverage is describing a surface the buyer may not be using.
